An engineer's path
Hi, I'm Serge - 0xlay in most places online. I'm a systems software engineer with 6+ years of experience building production-grade software in C++ and Rust for Windows and Linux across cybersecurity, telephony, and data recovery domains. I specialize in kernel and user-mode development and cross-platform system-level programming, and complement that engineering depth with hands-on experience in reverse engineering and malware analysis.
I keep pace with modern development practices: I actively use AI-assisted workflows with Claude Code, Codex, and local LLMs (Qwen via LM Studio/Ollama), integrate MCP servers, and develop custom skills and commands for AI agents. I apply LLM agents to parallel development tasks while maintaining rigorous code review discipline, treating AI-generated code as a first draft that requires careful verification to ensure product stability and correctness.
I also have a hobby, and it turns out to be engineering again. I just like tinkering with hardware and printing enclosures for it on a 3D printer. The one hobby that isn't engineering at all is the electric guitar.
Developed a proxy-based PAM system supporting SSH, RDP, VNC, Telnet, MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Oracle, AWS, Azure, GCloud, and Kubernetes for privileged session control and auditing.
Developed EPM modules for Windows and Linux enforcing least-privilege policies and controlling application execution rights across endpoints.
Developed an advanced email security system with kernel-level mail interception, scanning text, hyperlinks, and attachments against persistent threats.
Developed an endpoint protection platform featuring kernel-level file system and process monitoring, early threat detection, static and heuristic analyzers, a behavioral analysis engine, and automated threat response.
Developed a SIP cross-messenger telephony system enabling transparent call forwarding between heterogeneous messengers via SIP-based routing and protocol integration layers.
Maintained and extended satellite mirror correction software for real-time adjustment of orbital mirror positioning systems.
Conducted static and dynamic malware analysis. Produced detailed technical reports and authored YARA detection rules.
Performed security research and testing of an eSIM operator infrastructure. Analyzed network traffic and protocols, and reverse-engineered components.
Maintained and extended iOS backup data recovery software.
Developed an anti-cheat system for a private multiplayer gaming platform. Involved reverse engineering of existing cheat techniques to design effective countermeasures.
